Based on the various normative information on pipelines and mechanical protection, and existing equipment, here is what can be done on a case-by-case basis for electric wires and cables.
Note that in specific cases, it is necessary to analyze the environment or the installation.
To know if the protections implemented (the pipes) will meet the need in terms of protection against shocks. For example, in a factory with a circulation of automated vehicles, the external constraints will significantly impact the level of protection of the networks. The degree of mechanical protection required will be higher, and specific installation methods will not be authorized.
Finally, when an electric wire or a cable is protected in a pipe, the degree IK of this pipe gives the final cable protector.
Circulation Of Electric Wires:
Bare – Without mechanical protection:
The circulation of electric wires must not be done without protection.
It is strictly forbidden to circulate an electric wire without associating it with one of the means given above.
Under molding or chute:
The circulation of electric wire in trunking is authorized. This is also what is done in a visible installation.
The chute or molding’s continuity must be perfect and be done with elbows or angles at the appropriate places.
Under no circumstances should a wire be visible when changing the molding, in which case it falls back in the case cited just above, without mechanical protection.
In an IRL tube:
The IRL tube can be used as mechanical protection for electric wires.
But just like the molding, the wires must be protected throughout their journey. Elbows specific to the diameter of the IRL tube must then be used.
Mechanical protection of wires in an IRO tube
For the circulation of electric wire in an IRL tube, it is mandatory to use elbows and angles.
In an ICTA sheath or electrical sheath:
The ICTA sheath is mainly used to protect electrical wires.
But on one condition: traffic must not be underground. It is forbidden to run electric wires underground.
What about the sheath (TPC sheath)?
You may have guessed it, but it cannot run electrical wires through a sheath since the sheath is buried.
Circulation of electric cables:
Bare – Without mechanical protection:
The power cable, unlike the wire, can be installed without apparent mechanical protection insofar as a precise level of mechanical protection is not required.
The electric cable can also circulate in construction voids such as crawl spaces or lost attics.
The rule is that the electric cable circulating in a construction void can be removed without acting on the building’s construction elements.
