11 Ways To Use Vinegar In Your Home

With such an affordable and environmentally product readily available, did you know that  vinegar makes a fantastic cleaning agent? From showerheads to microwaves, vinegar can help solve a whole host of cleaning problems within the home, and here are 12 ways that you can start using vinegar for your house cleaning today:

  • Get your windows sparkling

A solution of distilled white vinegar and water can be used to help get your windows and mirrors sparkling clean when applied with a clean cloth. Wipe down with a squeegee afterwards to ensure streak-free glass.

  • Clean blinds

For washable blinds, mix a cup of ammonia with a ½ cup of vinegar, ¼ cup of baking soda and a gallon of warm water, and use the solution to wipe down your blinds. Rinse it with clean water afterwards.

  • Purify your coffee maker

Minerals and oil can build up in your coffee maker, to eliminate this, fill the reservoir with white vinegar and run the maker through a full brewing cycle. Once done, empty the carafe and get rid of any traces of vinegar by running a full reservoir of water through the full cycle again.

  • Make fresh blooms last longer

Adding 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 2 tablespoons of sugar to your vase of flowers will help preserve them for longer.

  • Cleaning microwaves

Microwaves can quickly become grubby and stained, however, boil a ¼ cup of vinegar with a cup of water inside the oven for as long as it takes for steam to build up inside, and then effortlessly wipe away the grime.

  • Getting your dishes and glasses back to their former glory

When washing your glasses and dishes in the dishwasher, add 1 and a ½ cups of vinegar to the machine and run it on a regular cycle with detergent.

  • Removing bathtub residue

Wipe your bathtub down with white vinegar and then baking soda, and rinse away with clean water.

  • Rejuvenating shower doors

Soap scum can quickly build up on your shower door, but you can combat this by wiping it down with a cloth or sponge soaked in vinegar. There should be no need to rinse afterwards.

  • Unclogging showerheads

Vinegar can be used to dissolve mineral deposits on showerheads, by adding a cup of it to a plastic storage bag that can be tied at the top. Secure the bag over the showerhead, or place the dismantled head into the bag, and leave it overnight. The next morning, remove the bag and turn the shower on to rinse the head.

  • Removing wine stains

If you’ve spilled wine on a cotton or polyester fabric, provided you treat it within 24 hours, you can eliminate the stain by sponging vinegar directly onto it until it disappears. Then, wash as per the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Get rid of soapy residue from laundry

Add a cup of vinegar to the final rinse when washing clothes, towels or bedding, to remove dingy soap and detergent residue.

Many professional cleaners use environmentally friendly cleaning products, and so if you want someone else to clean your home but are worried about the use of harmful chemicals, this could be the perfect solution.
